Training Stand Fan Coil as Source or Sink
Training Stand S2

Item No.: 82126

Both in the electrical and HVAC crafts, more emphasis must be placed on teaching renewable energy technologies in initial and continuing vocational training. The demand for efficient and optimised process design applies to teaching and learning concepts as well as to all energy-related applications! For the methodology and didactics of learning processes, action-oriented concepts in particular meet these requirements.

For this reason, Christiani offers training stands developed for vocational training, which enable an optimal professional qualification in the field of solar thermal and heat pump technology with electro-technical and hydraulic expertise!

These training stands can be combined in different ways, depending on the training objective. The S2 training stand can only be used in conjunction with other training stands.

Pedagogic requirements

  • Maximum learning efficiency from closely linking theory and the practical side of the subject with hands-on learning processes
  • The contents of learning must be made "graspable" in both meanings of the word
  • To avoid any waste of time in the learning organisation, all learning processes have to provided at the place of learning in a qualified and optimised manner, and the system technology must be designed for practical applications such that these processes can be realised in a mutually complementing way
  • This calls for "integrated specialist classrooms" where both theory and the practical side of the area of technology concerned can be mediated
  • The efficiency in conveying the knowledge and findings is part of the balanced concept which includes written information and exercises organised using modern media techniques, PC workplaces, experimental, laboratory and demonstration equipment to practice on
  • All learning processes are designed in the context of "complete action" with the problem assignment (job, information), conditional analysis (analysis of the knowledge relevant to the organisation, planning), project realisation (execution, realisation, test record) and transfer (documentation, assuring the results, testing)
  • Like the S1 training stand, the S2 training stand can be used both as an energy source and as an energy sink for a convection heating system:

  1. In connection with the brine heat pump, an air heat pump is created when using the training stand 2 as an energy source. The additional brine intermediate circuit that is created in this way provides interesting measured values for the physical understanding and energetic evaluation of a heat pump system.

  2. In its function as a fan coil unit, the training stand supplies experimental energy to the room air. By measuring the conveyed air flow and the difference between intake air and discharge air, the heat output can be determined and compared with the supplied power at the WMZ.

  • Additional electrical auxiliary energies for the fans, the brine pumps and the heat pump and the cooling capacity of the source allow various energy calculations and the preparation of overall balances of the energy flows involved. These elementary power and energy calculations open up the energetic understanding for an efficient energy use in modern heating and cooling systems!
  • With the help of this metrological recording, energy system optimisations can be carried out, e.g. by adapting the brine flow rates to the system performance! This is made possible by throttling via the valves or by selecting the pump capacity! Such learning processes are impressively possible with the present experimental system and should not be missing in any qualified training on energetic processes!
  • For safety reasons and because of the universal application as source and sink, all components are operated with a water-glycol mixture of at least 30 % "Tyfocor L". All fittings are therefore resistant to glycol and condensation water!
  • Both the source of energy and the energy sink with discharge of warm air can be realised with the fan convector in these experiments.
  • Two convectors are interconnected here to increase the performance.

    • Adjustable fan power (4 power stages) in the air throughputfrom 450 – 1040 m³/h
    • Adjustable heating power from 6.8 to 13.4 kW at 75/65/20°C
    • Adjustable cooling performance from 3 to 5.4 kW at 7/12/27°C
    • Continuous throttle action in thehydraulic circuit by turning valves onthe convector
    • Series of experiments to optimise the energy between the heating power available from the heating circuit and the energy conveyed from the convector to the air in the room
    • Integrated hot-medium meter
  • Understanding of system technical conditions of heat pump heating systems and solar thermal systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic and control engineering operating conditions using the example of a heat pump heating system or a solar thermal system.
