Front Silencer
Cutaway Model

Item No.: 73561

The exhaust system of a vehicle, often also called exhaust system or silencer system, must be type-approved. It is precisely matched to each engine in order to achieve optimum engine performance with the prescribed noise reduction.

The exhaust system has the following tasks:

  • Discharge of the exhaust gases
  • Silencing
  • Exhaust gas detoxification

The up to 1000° hot exhaust gases still have an overpressure of approx. 5 bar. Without silencing, loud noises occur, whose energy is slowly extracted and whose vibrations are reduced.

Therefore, different types of damping are required for the different frequencies:

  1. Absorption
  2. Reflection
  3. Interference
  4. Resonators

Most silencers are therefore a combination of several silencing types.

The front silencer is mainly used for power tuning with the engine. It consists of interference and reflection silencers. The sound waves come in through a side pipe and can propagate laterally through the perforation (interference) and reflect at the rear wall (reflection). This effect is amplified by the central tube and the division into three chambers.
