The model Compact Flexible Process Line simulates a flexible manufacturing line with two correlating machine tools, as used for example in serial production of metal cutting industries, which is automated in a large degree.

The Compact Flexible Process Line consists of two conveyor belts, two machine tools and register storage with pusher to bring parts into the system. The simulated process shows a work piece being provided at a register storage, then being brought into the manufacturing line by a pusher in the register storage, getting machined by the two machine tools and finally being out a discharge station: After pushing the start switch, the pusher brings the work piece to the first conveyor belt. The conveyor belt brings the part to the first machine tool, a vertical milling machine. The spindle starts rotating and a lamp shines besides the machine tool to initiate a machining sequence.

After a certain time, the lamp goes out and the spindle stands still. Next the work piece gets transferred to the second conveyor belt in order to be transported to another milling machine. This simulates a machining sequence, similar to the first machine tool. The complete work piece is brought out a discharge station by the second conveyor belt afterwards. The positions of the part on conveyor belt are in each case indicated by Reed switches.
